How eBay fees work

eBay's main charge is the final value fee: a percentage of the total the buyer pays, which includes the item, shipping and handling. For most categories, including clothing, home goods and toys, it is 13.6% on the first $7,500 and 2.35% on anything above.

A few categories have their own rates. Books, movies and music are 15.3%. Trading cards, comics and coins are 13.25%. Guitars and basses are 6.7%. Handbags, jewelry and watches start at 15% and drop above $2,000, $5,000 and $1,000 respectively. Athletic shoes selling for $150 or more pay a flat 8% with no per-order fee.

On top of that comes a per-order fee of $0.30 when the order is $10 or less and $0.40 above. If you use Promoted Listings General, eBay also charges your chosen ad rate on the total sale, but only when the buyer bought after clicking your ad.

eBay also charges its percentage on the sales tax the buyer pays. This calculator leaves tax out, so treat the result as a close estimate rather than the exact payout.
